In HK and loving it... Well, if only I wasn't alone

I'm in HK right now and have been here for about 1 week exactly. Before that I went to Thredbo and learnt how to snowboard. It was sooooo fun! I love it! I will so snowboard and not ski from now on! Although it seems to be more dangerous than skiing, as one of our friends dislocated his elbow and another blacked out from falling over backwards and hitting his head on a rock :( Luckily he was ok and didn't have concussion or any bad consequences from smacking his head. We were so worried that we made him go to a doctor to get checked out in case there was anything serious.

Myself? I had a great time, and now I can do heel and toe turns and could actually link them together to do S-turns. Although I still sometimes get scared and end up falling flat on my back in the snow. During the time when I was learning to do toe turns, I hit my head on the snow 4 times... by the end of the day, if I shook my head I actually got a little headache. But apart from losing a few brain cells, I seem to be doing just fine :P

Hong Kong is a wonderful place. To shop! Things are sooo cheap here, especially since the exchange rate from HK to A$ is about 6 to 1. Food is cheap (I'm so gonna get fat!!) and clothes are even cheaper. The only bad thing is that I have to shop all by my lonesome self all the time, since my friends are working, my cousins are working, and my aunts and uncles are working. Although I guess I do love to shop alone, because then you can look at what you want, when you want and go wherever you want. (This is a good thing, cos I actually don't really know where I go... I just go far enough to be able to come back to the spot I started so I can find my way back home again... If not, I call my aunt for directions to get back to her apartment)

Apart from meeting up with relos and shopping, the other reason I came to HK was for a job interview. I'd love to say that I have many interviews lined up, but the truth of the matter is that there was only one job that asked me for an interview. The other places either already had somebody else in mind, or they didn't want a new graduate. My aunts, uncles and cousins were all like, 'Oh the job in HK pays well so don't think about it, just come back and work!!!' If only things were THAT simple. Too bad the working conditions aren't as great as in Australia, where you get a lot of support when you first come out. Here, they usually just throw you in the deep end and expect you to be able to handle it and cope. So really, the only thing going for HK vet jobs is the money. I'm still thinking long and hard about it. I really don't know. Another reason for my hesitation is Dru. I don't want to leave him behind in Sydney and not be able to see him for the next 2 years!!! I don't think I can handle long-distance relationships, and I'm not sure whether he can either. Sure, he says it doesn't matter and we both have holidays where we can see each other, but it's not the same. Long distance in the same country is bad enough, let alone overseas?

Anyway, shopping here is fantastic! Clothes are like soo cheap and quite nice! Although I think I may be getting old, because a lot of the fashion over here seems a little immature to me. The weather's stinking hot though!! However, today was blowing a No. 3 Typhoon signal, which cooled down the weather a lot and it also rained quite heavily for a while. Outside right now, the trees are still bending like twigs in the wind and wind blowing past the aircon unit and the windows are starting to get quite loud.

And I'm still feeling sticky and smelly. I'm going to go have a shower now!
