2 Nights Out

On Friday night, my friends and I decided to head out to the city for drinks and dinner. We joined up with Dru's mates and headed to the Roof Bar. It was the first time I'd been there and it's actually quite a nice place. We were there for an hour or so while we waited for everyone so we could decide where to have dinner.

There was a lot of suggestions but the final decision was to go to this little Japanese restaurant near the PWC building.

It was something of a disaster....

Firstly, the actual ordering took us ages cos someone suggested we eat communally and we didn't know what to get or how much to order, then once we had ordered, they took ages to prepare our food. There was a total of 10 people there and once a dish comes out (since the dishes came one by one by one... with long periods of waiting in between....), 2 seconds later it would be gone as the dishes were quite small so everyone taking a piece soon clears the plate.

I think we were there for 2 hours because that's how long it took for all the food to come out.

Then the toilets.

The restaurant didn't have its own toilet, so you have to go into the building beside it and go down into the parking lot for their disabled toilet. When I went there, it was fine cos I had 3 males accompanying me, however, Helen and Genie went down there by themselves and almost got themselves abducted by 2 men.

Okay that may have been a bit of an exaggeration, but they were scared by this man who was standing next to his car with the boot wide open. He was yelling at them in some foreign language and gesturing to them (I think?) so they bolted back to the lifts where another man in a car started up his engine then started yelling stuff at them too.

They couldn't get back to the restaurant fast enough.

Just thinking about it gives me chills down my back.

Who knows what those 2 men were really up to? But it wasn't a pleasant experience for Helen and Genie.

I don't think they'll ever go back there again.

So after dinner, some of the guys were still hungry, so we went to KFC for a quick 2nd dinner. We walked past Town Hall and this is what it looked like:

They were projecting that colourful pattern onto the Town Hall from the building opposite. It was really pretty, and covered the entire front of the Hall, except that we were in a hurry and I only took this one shot of it.

We went to Bar333 after but only for an hour and then everyone went home. It was a pretty tame night on the whole.

------

On Saturday night, Dru's friend Tariff (I think that's how u spell it) hosted a BBQ, I think sort of as a make up dinner for his wedding the previous year. It's almost their one-year anniversary already! He went over to Cambodia and came back with a wife. So sly! Didn't even tell anyone or anything! Just kinda like 'Yeh, Cambodia was great, we did this, this, this and oh by the way, I got married...' Although it was funny that all his friends were guessing that he would come back married anyway.

At the BBQ, it was relos and friends night, little kids running around everywhere, which then prompted me to think that I'll never have BBQs like that with my family. There's only my brother and I, plus we only have one set of relos in Sydney. If I was in HK, there'll be kids running amuck at every family get-together. Both my parents have big families.

I didn't take many photos that night, cos it was Dru's friend's get-together, so it didn't feel right for me to whip out the camera.

Jamie and Dru

Jamie doesn't really like taking photos so he pulled a face at me.

Dru, me, Sakkim and Tariff

Dru was kinda underdressed for the night, but his excuse was that it was boiling hot during the day, plus he'd packed all his clothes in his luggage already! (Really, it was only because it was hot and he'd thought that it was just a friends only thing)

------

Anyway, I've gotta get to the airport, I'm off to Fiji!! :)

Be back next Wednesday!!

Finally... An Answer

After 2 months of deliberation, the vet in HK finally sent me an answer in the form of an email, even though he originally promised last week to let me know via a phone call and, I quote, 'definitely not by email'. But he's promised me so many phone calls, except that if I remember correctly, he has not once called me.

EVER.

So many empty promises...

It wasn't really all that surprising for me to find out that he's finally decided not to hire a new graduate.

Do I sound bitter or annoyed or something?

Cos I'm not.

I'm actually very relieved to know that I don't have to worry about moving to HK anymore, plus all the other concerns I had.

I'M SO GLAD!

Now I'm waiting for an answer from Wakely Vet.........

Just Bored at the Library

I'm currently at the UNSW Library, waiting for Dru to finish his 3-hour interview. I've been very consciencious, doing a lot of reading on my vet stuff, reading up on anaesthetic drugs and diseases, but now I'm starting to get a little bored and sleepy :(

------

Yesterday, whilst I was waiting for Dru at Cabramatta station, I saw two policemen on bikes rush to the other side of the station, then quickly following them, were two policemen on foot. I heard a lot of sirens, about 4 police cars and 3 ambulances rushing in the same direction as the previous 4 policemen. I stayed on my side of the station, as I wasn't sure whether it was really safe to cross over to where the commotion was occurring, but after 15 minutes, my curiosity got the better of me, so I went over to see if I could find out what had happened.

I actually didn't find anything out except that something big had happened cos they blocked off the street and had cordoned off the whole entire area with police tape.

I read the news today and it turns out that a newsagent owner had been stabbed several times during a robbery of his shop. He was resuscitated but later died at Liverpool hospital. (I actually saw the ambo guys using the defibrillator on the stabbed guy, after 2 shocks, the guy actually sat back up.) Fortunately they arrested the guy responsible.

I think that was way too much excitement for me in one day.

------

I've got an interview at Wakely Vet tomorrow. I'm a bit nervous. I wonder what sort of questions he'll ask me? I don't even know what I can do to prepare, so I'm just reading up on my notes in case he gives me a case to interpret!

I checked my results for my last rotation.... and it was 'satisfactory'! So I'm officially graduating on the 16th of Dec! *takes a deep breath* Gosh I need to work out what I'm going to wear underneath my robes (I know you can't really see what I wear underneath, but thought still has to go into it!) and also find a beautiful dress to wear to my Graduation Ball. I don't have much time left to find one! I don't even have any idea what I want for my dress, what colour I want or what cut, what length, what style.... *sigh* And then do I get my hair professionally done? Makeup too? Oh I don't know!

I'm going to Fiji on Monday! I know I said 20th before, but we had to change the time cos of Dru's interview today. I'm excited! And it's actually better this way cos now I get to spend Dru's birthday with him in Fiji. Although now that reminds me, what am I getting him?? Oh no! All this thinking I need to do... my head hurts -_-'

Plus now that Dru's going to Fiji so late, I don't know whether he'll be back in time for my graduation and Grad Ball..... If he can't make it, who do I take to the Ball??????

Another 40 minutes, and Dru should be finished. I hope he finishes soon cos I'm really hungry!

Kept in Suspense

So I finally decided to call the vet in HK on Friday. I was told by his vet assistant that he was currently busy handling a very aggressive dog. So fair enough, I left a number and the VA said Mark will call me back when he's done. One, two, three hours tick by and no call.

He didn't end up calling me that night. (Surprise, surprise....)

So I called him again on Saturday, since I know he's a busy person, and it's much easier for me to call him than to wait for him to call. (To this day, I don't think he's ever called me here in Australia before, although he's promised to do so on numberous occasions.)

Luckily he wasn't too busy and took my call. He told me that sorry, he still hasn't reached a decision yet and he was so busy on the Friday night that he didn't actually leave the clinic until midnight..... -_-'

Damn, if it's that busy all the time, I don't want to work there! *hahaha* (Just kidding... kinda...)

So in the end, he said he'll give the decision his whole attention on Sunday (today) and he'll hopefully be able to give me a yes or no sometime next week. He also said if I get an offer between now and then, then to not worry about this job and take the other offer. It would be his own fault he said.

-------------------------------

On a somewhat different note, my fish shop boss has decided not to let me work next week ( I think allowing me to work is too expensive for him... *hehehe*)

So this coming week, I'm going to call up Parramatta Vet Hospital (where I did a rotation in March) and ask whether I can go in to do some volunteer work. It'll be definitely for my benefit, as I'd be able to get my mind thinking about vet stuff again.

Of course, I'll have to read over my notes before I go there (if the principal vet gives me the nod) and brush up on all those things that I've already forgotten over the past 2 and a half months. I sincerely hope that she says yes, I'll be so so grateful! Plus she's got a permanent part-time position going, so maybe she'll hire me! (Yeah right...) I would love to, but I would like a permanent full-time position better. I swear, if a full-time position ever goes at Parra, I would jump at the chance to work there. I love the environment and I love the vets there. They do such a great job, and it inspires me and makes me aspire to be a good vet :)

Anyway, I'll call them tomorrow and hopefully I'll be allowed to go help out!!!

Waiting for an Answer

Waiting for answers from prospective bosses suck.

Especially if they promised and promised to give you a definite yes/no by late last night, and now it's almost 24 hours after they promised to call you... and they still haven't called yet.

I mean fair enough, he's a busy man, but a promise is a promise is a promise. Although so far he really hasn't kept a good track record. Since he's kind of unreliable (from what I've experienced so far), would he then be a bad boss who doesn't often keep his word? Should this mean that even if he does say yes to me, that I should say no back?

He's even told me personally, that he knows he will lose potential employees because he's been a bit slack with keeping in touch with them and updating them with what's going on. Well, if he doesn't call me tonight, he just may lose one more.

Although the pay is so attractive (HK$40,000/month - I think the exchange rate is AU$1 to HK$5.73... I'll let you do the maths), that I really feel like calling him to find out whether he wants me or not.

So at least I can stop worrying and fretting about it.

  1. About my relationship with Dru.

  2. About needing to be vaccinated against rabies. (Ouch... I think it's like 3 shots goodness-knows how many weeks apart)

  3. About the bird flu crisis. (Can I get vaccinated????? I'm scared!)

  4. About booking the plane tickets. (Yeh I know it's not that big a worry...)

  5. About moving over to HK for 2 years. (Although my friend did remind me last night that all I need are the essential stuff like textbooks and what have you... the rest you can buy in HK)

  6. About flying solo most of the time when I'm working. (This is probably the main one)

  7. About... (I can't think of any more)
Anyway, enough about my worrying, I don't want to think about it anymore. (And yes I do worry about my family, but they'll be there for me no matter what and they support me in my decisions, so it's not that much to worry about. Plus I have extended family in HK, who will support me whilst I'm there.)

So if he'll just give me a decision, I can either know to continue to worry, or not even bother wasting one more brain cell on it.

I already didn't sleep very well last night, due to the fact that I kept waking up and checking on whether the guy's called me or not, or just to check that I wasn't sleeping deep enough to miss his call. It was a pretty rough night of tossing and turning in bed.

He better call me soon! Or should I call him again?

*sigh*

Self-Milking Cows

I was reading the Sun-Herald (yes the Sunday paper, that I got on Sunday, but only found time to read today ...) and as I was flicking through the pages, I suddenly saw a picture of a cow with carwash-like devices on it:

The picture was so out of the ordinary that it caused me to stop and read the accompanying article.

This article, titled 'Cows that milk themselves', talks of cows that
get ID'ed by an implanted microchip, willingly walk themselves into "booths", which have robotic arms that are ultrasound and laser guided to the cow's udders and automactically milks the cow.

These wonderful "booths" also plays soothing classical music to the cows as they consume some feed from the troughs and, if they nudge a switch with their noses, they can activate brushes and rollers to give them a rub-down. What a wonderful booth! Gosh, if I was a cow, I'd like to be in that booth for most of the day. Get out of my way other cows!

I wonder if cows would actually come back to be milked more than twice a day. And is there a device to keep cows out if they keep coming back for more? Like, hey you don't have enough milk - no milk, no rub-down!

This article also states that if a cow develops a problem during milking, the owner can be notified by a text message..... "Come and get your bloody cow off me robotic arm!"

(I made up that last sentence)

This invention sounds amazing, but I couldn't help laugh when I first read it.

Lazy Sunday

Today's been a pretty lazy Sunday....

My cats were relaxing whilst I pretty much did nothing. All day.

------

However, I do have some great news - I'm going to Fiji for a week from the 20th of this month! Just for a week though, but I'm going with Dru, so it's gonna be a great trip. It's only a week away so I better start packing my bags again! Hopefully I'll take lots and lots of great photos.

I don't want to get tanned though! I'm going to use lots and lots of sunscreen, although to not get tanned is a possibility that's probably next to none :(

Oh well.

I'll probably end up bringing my UV-reflecting umbrella *LoL* What an Asian thing to do -_-'

Korean BBQ @ Parra

Just came home from a get-together at a Korean BBQ in Parra. It's Jackson's 28th birthday! (28th? Gosh that's OLD!!!) I smell badly of BBQ. It's in my hair, my clothes, my skin! *urgh* I want to take a shower to wash out the smell... but it's kinda a little late for that, I'll just have to wait til tomorrow morning to shower before work... which seems kinda redundant cos I'll get all dirty and smelly at the fish shop tomorrow. Oh well.

I was planning to take lots of photos at the BBQ place, however, we were all sooooo completely starving (because Dru and Sung were really late...) and I totally forgot about taking photos until we were sitting there, patting our full bellies, which was too late to take any photos.

We planned to go Karaoke afterwards at a place near Westfield off Church St... but when we got there, we realised that the place had actually closed down already -__-' So we then decided to go bowling at that place near Lone Star in Parra. When we got there at 10:20pm, it was closed for further business. We stood in the carpark for a while, trying to figure out where we should go next, what we should do... We were going to go back to Rob's place for poker, but Thomas and Jamie had to go home, I kinda didn't want to go down south again (plus I have work tomorrow), Sung had to go home and Dru decided to go home too... So maybe Jackson, Rob, Marie and Fi are doing something interesting right now.... or they could be at home twiddling their thumbs too (like me).

So it's just a quick entry here and I've gotta get some sleep so I'll be roaring again for another day at the fish shop tomorrow. It was tiring today, it was busy enough so that was okay, but my feet hurt :( And now that I've worn high heels for the night, they hurt even worse! I think I'll need to give my feet a nice massage before I go to bed tonight!

Somebody Save Me!

I've been soooooo BORED the past few days that I'm slowly going out of my mind. All I've done is watching DVDs, read, look for jobs and play games on the net. The previous game I mentioned, 'Unfolding'.... I've finished level 22, that's how freakin' bored I was!

And I really can't be bothered doing any more levels -__-'

Lucky for me, help's on the horizon - I've got work at the fish shop tomorrow.

Unfolding

I got hooked onto this 'Unfolding' game today and instead of doing my CV and my coverletters (as I should have been doing....) I just kept playing and playing this game. I finally finished level 15....

......when I accidently opened something else in the browser window...!! :( Since it's a flash game and there's no saving... poor me, I had to start all over again. I can't believe it! I'm currently back on level 13, but it's too late to keep going so I have to go sleep and continue on tomorrow.

I just can't believe I have to do it all over again! I'll probably have nightmares about this game tonight! Strings and lines will come and attack me or something! *ugh!!*

Cleaning My Room

My room's a mess! I've got 2 suitcases sitting on the floor filled with stuff I took with me to the country and today's probably the only day I have to clean up the mess. I think I start working retail tomorrow but I'm yet to be told my timetable... Hope I found out soon, otherwise I'll have to ring to find out myself!

First, I pulled out all the clean clothes from my suitcases and also the pile of clothes that's already been washed and sorted them out on my bed:

I opened my wardrobe and OMG... it was a pigsty too.... it's terrible!

I pulled out all the clothes from the wardrobe and folded them and sorted them out on the bed like the other clothes. I also took out all the ones I haven't worn for a while and most likely will never wear again. These went into the 'to be thrown into the St. Vincent de Paul clothing bin' pile. It ended up being two humungous piles!

And I still had a wardrobe full of clothes that I'm keeping! -->

That's actually not all the clothes I have. If you can see just on the left edge of that photo I have another pile of clothes there plus I have lots of jackets, dresses, skirts and pants that are hanging up in the wardrobe. I never knew I had so much clothes~ Whilst I was putting clothes back into my wardrobe, Melody decided to come have a nap on my bed, in the midst of everything.

And of course, I didn't miss an opportunity to take lots of photos of her!

Ahhh, isn't she so pretty? No, she's not evil-looking alright?!?! And have I shown you the pawprint on her back yet??

Isn't it the cutest??

Anyway, after I cleaned the wardrobe, I turned to my dresser and....

*gasp*

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*almost faints* It's going to take me absolute ages to tidy up... *sigh*
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

An interesting item of clothing I found whilst I was going through my wardrobe was this skirt:

Yes. It's a skirt, NOT an apron. And I remember I used to wear it to uni... I can't imagine what possessed me to buy it, let alone wear it out of the house and think I looked okay in it.... But wait, there's more:
.
.
.
.
Leg Warmers. That actually matched the skirt. Hm. Riiiiight... Luckily I never actually wore those leg bits. Ever. I swear!

So I think it took me about 5 hours in total, but my room was nice and tidy in the end :) And it only took me 5 hours cos I was doing bits and pieces of other things as well as cleaning my room.

And okay, I did have a nap with the cat too... :P

Genie's BBQ

It's Sunday, the day that the assignment for my last rotation is due.... *drum roll...* I've finished and handed my assignment in! Now I just need to look for a job whilst earning money doing a retail job whilst waiting for December 16th, my graduation date. I'm getting butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it~ I'm almost a qualified veterinarian! All you dogs and cats out there beware! Hahahaha! No no, I'll do a good job, I promise *innocent look*

So it's almost Genie's birthday, but she had a BBQ get-together yesterday at her place. It started at 1pm and I swear I was going to be there on time, except Dru decided at the last minute (ok ok it was in the last 2-3 hours) that he couldn't drive himself there, so I had to go pick him up THEN get to Genie's place. I live north-west, Dru lives south-west and Genie lives a bit east of where I do... I had to do a big triangle to get to her house -_-' Plus I was still trying to finish off my assignment when I suddenly realised that it was almost 12pm and I hadn't even gotten ready yet! I had to take a shower, figure out what to wear, put on makeup, make sure I had Genie's present and that I had the presents she bought for Janice and Helen and also my presents from HK for them with me. Which reminds me.... I left Janice's presents at Genie's place. *whoops* I hope she's found them and put them somewhere safe! And speaking of Janice, she didn't come to the BBQ cos she had to work!

Anyhow, Dru and I finally arrived at Genie's at 2:05pm, which wasn't TOO bad I guess. I actually ate some rice paper spring rolls at Dru's before we headed out for Genie's. I had been hankering for some since last Sunday.

When we arrived, there were already quite a lot of people there and everyone was busy chewing their food. Poor Dru, he was immediately given the job of looking after the BBQ:

There were ribs and sausages and pork chops.... real fatty ones. See there wasn't any fire leaping from the BBQ in the picture above? When the chops were placed onto the BBQ.... First it was like this....

.
.
.
.
.
Then it became like this:

*Shakes head* Dru almost got engulfed by the flames. Luckily, soon after the pork chops were put on, the sausages and ribs were done and BBQ duty was over for Dru. However, more unlucky people put on the fatty chops and were almost consumed by the monstrous flames too.

Here's Genie and Preeya manning the BBQ. Are those the fatty chops in Genie's hand? Or the ribs? Looks like the ribs I think.

And Leo the dog finally got released from his place of confinement. He had a ball, running around and trying to get food off people. He ate so much rib bits, he had a whole pile of rib bones on his little blanket! It's a pity I didn't get a photo of it!

Isn't he cute?

This little guy was so excited he tried to jump through the glass windows to get inside. You'd think that after living at the house for so long, he'd have realised that no, you cannot jump through the glass??

We ended up getting Genie a new wallet and a gift voucher for a Deluxe Facial at Ella Rouge, perfect for an after-final-exams destress. It must be because we've been friends for ages, but the wallet was a perfect present since Genie's wallet clasp had broken not long ago, and she was thinking of getting a new one!

Following are just other photos we took:

Helen, Linda and Genie. Helen and I haven't seen Linda since we graduated from high school! We updated her on all the gossip we heard at our reunion and Linda gave us some goss on the people she knows. (Linda thought Helen said something and hence she's not looking at the camera, but the photo I took after that was too blurry to put up.)

We didn't use the flash so it was a little blurry. Why do photos come out a bit blurry if you don't use the flash? Is there any way to not use the flash and still get sharp photos??
Helen said that we hadn't taken a photo together in ages, so we took one. I didn't even take a photo with the birthday girl! I didn't realise this until I came home :(

And finally, me and Dru. We need to take more photos together. Seriously, we've been together for a year and half already, but we've hardly taken any photos. I'm going to try and bring my camera with me more often from now on!
